Operation Spark is a New Orleans nonprofit coding school offering tuition-free software-development training to high school students in grades 9–12. Students learn HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and web development through immersive courses that can build toward professional-level skills before graduation. It operates as a semester-based training program rather than a traditional summer day camp.

Powered by GoogleHorrible experience. My instructor was a student that previously graduated from there. I had no help what so ever. The instructor was more concern about his outfit of the day instead of helping.
This was one of the best decisions I've made as an adult. From the youth program to the adult, they ask for a major commitment from you and deliver on everything promised. It was extremely challenging and so worth it. I am now an autonomous and very capable software engineer. I'm also grateful to see such a community minded organization and the continued support into getting that first job and beyond with all the community get togethers.
Six months ago, I didn't know how to write a for loop. Today, I'm accepting an application as a software developer. The instructors in this program are some of the best people you will find out there. Socratic method abounds, but that challenge brought me to the way I think now, in learning how to learn. This is a tough program, make no doubt - my four year degree was a walk in the park compared to this, but I learned more in six months than I did during that degree program. It is a sprint and a marathon, but damn was it a fun ride!
Operation Spark is the real deal. They have a roster of inspiring and captivating teachers who clearly care a a lot. The program works!
I would definitely recommend this course as a whole. I was only able to do the bootcamp due to work; however, I have such a great foundation for moving forward. Taylor Shephard was my instructor for prep and did an incredible job preparing us for bootcamp. Ryan McFarland was my instructor for Bootcamp and is an incredible instructor and person. He was always willing to slow down or take a second to make sure you understood what was going on. I wish I was able to do the precourse and immersion program. If you need a place to start your coding journey, you need not look anywhere else imo.
