Open Door Studios is a dance studio at 3706 Central Avenue in Charlotte's Plaza Midwood, teaching ballet, jazz, modern, tap and hip hop to youth and adults. Summer camps for ages 3-9 come in half-day or full-day options and pair dance with crafts, games and other activities; older students ages 9-18 attend summer intensives instead. Single- and multi-day workshops cover acrobatics, ballet, jazz, modern, improvisation, choreography, tap and yoga, and the studio runs an immersive theater production camp in which campers build an original story from scratch.

★★★★★Elizabeth RussoYou cannot find a better dance studio than Open Doors. I take the adult ballet drop-in classes. Each of the teachers is excellent. The classes are incredibly well attended. Like me, many adult students take multiple times a week, and have been taking multiple years. There is no judgement at Open Doors. Everyone works at their own level, and each student is celebrated. It is a wonderful place to reconnect with your love of dance, or to embark on a new journey as a beginner. Adult classes are offered across multiple types of dance and skill levels.

Some leave for various reasons but always come back. That’s because it’s a very special place. You feel welcomed, not judged, accepted, you find community, you make friends. And then of course there is the dancing. The faculty includes very experienced, excellent teachers and dancers, who really see you and know how to help you to become your very best. They know what it takes, the discipline, the hard work, but they also know how to keep it light. During my years at ODS I went through some very difficult times, and that’s where I found refuge, in the dance, with my people.
