A great BSA high adventure base that has treks into the B.W.C.A. I was there for the Order of the Arrow G-11 Section Conclave. Scouts were able to go on canoe trek and also helped with service projects around the camp.campfire. Highly recommend checking it out if you get a chance.

Myself and 3 of my sons completed a 7 day canoe outing. It was initially hard work portaging and paddling long distances but by day 3 we were getting used to the physicality of it. We have been to all four of the Scouts USA high adventure camps and this one was the hardest of them all. The BWCA is a beautiful area and we enjoyed seeing the many loons and bald eagles. Our interpreter (guide) did a great job helping push us when we needed it and gave us space as we needed in camp. He was good at instructing us how to use the equipment. The Northern Tier program is well done from beginning to end. The rendezvous on the last night was enjoyable and we all felt accomplished at the end of the trip.

Life changing experience. Ask about the Legend of Captain One-Eye One-Roll Morgan. The tale of her 8 pillaging scout pirates in pursuit of white gold will live on till the end of time. Thanks to the crew and staff for all the memories.

I just had an amazing experience at Charles L. Sommers National High Adventure Base in Ely. The staff made sure we were safe and prepared for a seven day trek in the Boundary Waters. The facilities on base are well maintained and clean. Shout-out to the kitchen staff. So friendly! Finally, our Interpretor, Wyatt HP, was the absolute best. He kept our bellies full and our spirits high while in the back country.

Great adventure.. wear good boots, bring a small camping chair.. you need it after paddling all day!! Also pack as light as possible, spend time planning or looking at rout before going.. and go over food they are packing if you won't eat it leave it every ounce counts!!
