The National Youth Science Camp (NYSCamp) is a highly selective, free four-week residential STEM program near Bartow in the Monongahela National Forest, run by the National Youth Science Academy. Two students from each state and DC are chosen after high school graduation to attend lectures from prominent scientists, hands-on science activities and outdoor recreation. Powered by GoogleThe most pivotal moment in my life. Words alone cannot express every electrifying moment I felt at the National Youth Science Camp. Not even the hundreds of pictures took do justice to how wonderful this was. If you are wavering on attending or being a staph member, don't hesitate at all. You don't know what you could be missing out on, and if you knew, you would regret it for the rest of your life.
One of the best experiences I've ever had in my life! I'm really proud to have been part of the program, and I hope that more young leaders can be part of this unique and inspiring camp! :)
NYSC '66 NC Delegate. What else is there to say? You either know (of) this place or you don't. It set me on the path that would lead to my professional career. Nothing has changed at Camp Pocahontas (nor should it ever). It, along with The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, are the two most wonderful places in Almost Heaven. Camp Pocahontas is a 4-H camp (still, it appears), and is not exactly primitive, but basic is not quite an appropriate description (there is a nice dining hall, for example). But when it's closed and not in use, there is nothing to see (other than memories). Not much has changed in 55 years, however, and that IMHO is exactly how it should be.
This place brings back great memories. I was a counselor in '78 & '79.
The National Youth Science Camp (NYSC) is a unique and amazing experience for college bound students. There's daily lectures by NASA scientists, professors of biomedical engineering, physics, mathematics, and more. There's also a few fun safe surprises to keep the 4 week camp exciting.
