I would put a 0 star if I could... I was very disappointed with how life guard Joe was treating our children at the swimming pool on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. I spoke with several parents that day, and many of them shared the same concerns. Some mentioned that they may not return because of how verbally abusive he was at the Maplewood YMCA. My daughter knows how to swim, she went to Foss and can swim on her back and front for more than 10 seconds, she also holds her breath and swims well underwater. He was not very considerate to us or our children. My daughter was just swimming around having fun and she occasionally got a little farther away from where she was supposed to be, she always came back after I told her she had gone to far. Joe was using a very aggressive tone while speaking to me and my daughter and the other parents. We came here to relax and enjoy our time, but instead it was very stressful and unpleasant experience. My friend is a member and we were considering joining the ymca, that why we went. There were many adults there all watching their own kids. I have not had issues anywhere else. In the end we were basically forced to leave before our time was up. Safe to say we will not be returning. We hope the facility can review what happened that day and make improvements to ensure better communication, consistent rule enforcement, and a positive experience for families and children.

Not bad but there are limited pool hours, half the time there's a random pool closing for various reasons. Then they have arbitrary not legally determined limiting rules for their hot tub (6 at a time? LOL Huh? When I inquired about why this rule existed, the supervisor informed that they made the role for safety in case their was a health emergency in the hot tub. This makes almost NO sense since you can easily reach any area from the sides of the hot tub - it's not fifty feet across, lol - plus it's not like people aren't going to move anyway. The other reason was for cleaning purposes, which again makes no sense since the cleaning has to happen anyway. Just a bone-headed rule that creates an unnecessary hassle for members. Considering that this is Minnesota, a diehard Blue State where they want to control everyone all the time, this isn't shocking but it's super annoying regardless. The pool annoyances aside, the staff is friendly and the place is clean and nice. They just need to manage their pool facilities way better. Provide better hours. Keep it open more often for Open swim. And stop with idiotic pointless hot tub rules

This YMCA offers a variety of amenities, and my partner and I had the chance to experience them all over the course of five days using a one-time-only 5-Day Pass. It was a great way to try out the facility before committing to a membership, and we appreciated having the opportunity to explore different areas each day. One of the highlights was the aquatic area. The hot tub was fantastic—actually hot, which is often not the case at similar facilities. We also loved the wide selection of pool tools, such as noodles and kickboards, which made swimming more enjoyable and versatile. However, it’s important to note that no towels are provided, and the shared locker room lacks private changing areas, so be sure to bring your own towel and plan accordingly. The fitness center was clean and had what we needed, though it's smaller than other YMCA gyms we've visited. We also used the walking track on the third floor. While it was a nice space, it was odd that we had to use the stairs to enter, though the elevator could be used to exit. While walking in the clearly marked slow lane, I received a few unwelcome side glances despite staying in the appropriate area. One downside was the lack of signage or maps, making it hard to find areas like the pool or studios. Also, a front desk staff member was noticeably rude when we asked about the pool schedule, which didn’t match the otherwise welcoming feel of the center. Overall, the Maplewood YMCA has potential, but could improve with clearer information, signage, and more consistent customer service.

I really liked how this place looks. It's clean. And they have attentive life guards on pool duty. I only visited the pool area. The girls at the desk where crabby but it was a Saturday and I'd be the same so I'm honestly not to bothered by that. They weren't rude, you just could tell they where crabby. The locker rooms where clean. Bathrooms where clean. I think the price is great for a quick drop in. Definitely going back. Fun atmosphere.
