★★★★★Lily RohrbachI've volunteered with Loveworks for several years and I can honestly say it has been one of the most impactful experiences of my undergraduate education. Over the past 3 and a half years, I've been able to see the way Loveworks transforms people, and while the focus is on the middle school students, there's so much to learn from as a college student as well. The lessons are never watered-down, but provide reminders and outlooks on life that are applicable whether it's the first or third time you're hearing them. Through time with students to grow in their communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, I've gained so much insight on the complex ways we can move and encourage others to achieve their dreams. I've been so fortunate to see sixth graders grow into seventh graders, then eighth, before moving onto high school, and the positive difference Loveworks has had, whether seeing a student who refuses to go on stage and present become a powerful public speaker, or a student who struggled with group interaction become the team lead for a project. This is a place for students to feel safe and empowered to chase after their goals and are given the skills and resources to do so, and seeing that as a young adult has given me that same sense of empowerment. It's very easy to get caught up in the challenges of life, and especially get caught in the bubble of college, but Loveworks never ceases to break through that wall and show volunteers, like myself, ways to propel forward, and carry others alongside use.
