Katy Tennis Academy runs summer tennis classes on the Beckendorff Junior High courts, grouped by level: beginners ages 5 to 8, intermediate 9 to 13, and advanced 11 to 17. Groups meet Monday through Friday for 90 minutes — 8 to 9:30 a.m. or 6 to 7:30 p.m. for beginner and intermediate players, and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. for the advanced group — billed at $185 to $200 per week or $370 to $400 for a three-week session. Sessions cover stroke mechanics, coordination and competition drills, singles and doubles strategy, match play and team building, and each camper receives a camp T-shirt.

Unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. What was offered at the time of enrollment was not delivered. During the sessions, I noticed that the coaches were not correcting the kids or working on fundamental technical aspects. There was no real teaching or individualized attention. Rather than a tennis academy, it felt more like a childcare service on the court. It is concerning to see that the main focus appears to be collecting payment rather than truly developing the players. This is unfortunate, because tennis requires discipline, technique, and professional guidance — none of which were clearly present here.
