JMU Summer Band Camps run a week each July on the James Madison University campus in Harrisonburg, with five tracks: Concert Band, Marching Band, Percussion, Drum Major and Colorguard. Participants work with JMU School of Music faculty, Marching Royal Dukes staff and visiting clinicians, rehearse in Bridgeforth Stadium and other campus facilities, and perform in final concerts on the closing Saturday; every track includes peer-teaching and leadership training. Enrollment is open to rising ninth graders through rising college first-years, and the camp begins with move-in, indicating a residential format.

They are so much fun and the amount of work that is put it is all worth it in the end seeing all the participants perform. It’s not easy but that’s what marching band is about, working to play music in a field show. Between what I have learned, and the memories, I would recommend this to anyone who is able to participate. Also the food is really good!
★★Judi RodigerThey would have your child awake from 6.30 am to get breakfast from 7 to 8, after that they would made them walk more than 15 minutes to the field and they would keep them busy in full sun until lunch. Then, they would walk back all the way to the food place, after that they have to rest over the table!...then more walking to do more activities in the same field and heat. Later, walking back to dinner time and do "recreational activities" ....because they would not not let them return to their room at any time until 10.30 pm to shower and sleep. My child couldn't wait to get back home. If you are planning to send them to the Foreign Legion, this is good practice.
