J & J Hip Hop Dance & Performing Arts Company in Colorado Springs runs a week-long Hip Hop Elements Summer Dance Camp in which each day introduces a new hip hop element and a different choreographer or instructor. Campers work on hip hop foundations and street dance styles, hip hop history and culture, technique, choreography, performance and audition preparation, alongside team- and character-building. The week also includes a large water slide, a water activity day, games, relays, obstacle courses, costume design, capture the flag and a scavenger hunt. The studio teaches street hip hop and other dance styles year-round.

★★★★★Jessie EUpdate: If you have a kid that really wants to do hip hop dance getting through the beginner class is challenging but once you advance it's very very fun. My daughter was elated after her first class in the slightly more advanced class. The reason the beginner class is more challenging is because the age range is just too great for the vastly varying physical abilities. The 6 year olds should definitely be grouped in the 3-5 range group instead of up to 12 years old to really develop their basic coordination. :) My daughter has attended 2 classes so far for beginner hip hop. The studio is really beautiful and artistically done. You can tell a lot of care goes into keeping the place clean and it's also very cozy for waiting parents. They have a snack/toy room with items for purchase and as incentives for good behavior. My daughter enjoys her teacher so far. They offer classes for kids (as young as 6) and adults including Zumba. 6 yo seems to be a bit young for some of the kids who don't seem like they're quite ready to follow instruction and that hinders the older kids a bit but this is certainly not the studios fault. I do think it would be a great idea to package classes together...for example have a Zumba class at the same time as hip hop kids class so parents can do a class for themselves and the tuition could double. I've been offered coffee and hot chocolate while my daughter was dancing and those little details go a long way!
