Powered by GoogleAdam, my therapist was fantastic. I saw him last year to assess my shoulder. After rotator cuff surgery, he took great care of me, and it was a great recovery. Terry, who does scheduling/office admin was always very helpful when my life required me to change an appointment. Lastly, it’s a beautiful building and the YMCA staff are very pleasant and helpful.
So this is coming from a point of view in comparing Indian Valley to Hale YMCA. Maybe it’s a little skewed due to Hale being newer but just wanted to share some ideas that could make it better. I moved to Manchester a few months ago and was hoping to find a home gym that I loved as much as Hale YMCA. Hale I feel is very accommodating to regular working class folks that work 8-5 jobs. They have a multitude of classes at 5:30, 5:45, 6:00 pm. They offer a lot of the les mills class that I have grown accustomed to; body pump, sprint, body step, core, TRX, etc. I was excited to try out another YMCA and see if the classes were any different. I feel seniors/people that work untraditional schedules are favored at Indian Valley with class times during the day and diverse options. Some days there are 0 class options when I get out of work like Weds/Fri. Options seem to be yoga/spin/zumba for the late classes, when they are offered. I know I don’t represent everyone but me personally, do not like these classes. Why are the les mills classes only offered in the daytime? Is it a lack of interest? A lack of instructors? I have written this in the suggestion box twice and have never been contacted back for any dialogue or answers. Another not so serious but annoying thing I wanted to point out is asking why the exit door near the pool is locked? It’s so much easier to exit that side after using the sauna or pool instead of going all the way around through the locker rooms. Hale YMCA leaves these doors unlocked—it’s the same exact U-shaped setup—why lock these doors and create an inconvenient? I’m thinking it’s not a company-wide policy if one Y leaves the doors unlocked and one Y leaves the doors locked. Lastly, I believe the Indian Valley Y needs more, and newer, treadmills (and even a few other things, like new thicker yoga mats). Hale YMCA offers Matrix brand treadmills (and plenty of them) which have the virtual active option, which makes working out so much more pleasant. Most of the time at Indian Valley when I come after work every single treadmill is taken and they just seem older and worn out. I understand that coming after work is a very popular workout time, but the reality is most people do work until 5 and come directly from work. The class options are poor and static, and insufficient number of treadmills. Hale YMCA has TONS of thick, clean, yoga mats for class goers. When I went to a class last week at Indian Valley, I had to ask someone in class where the mats were, after checking all the closets and not seeing any. She pointed to the corner of the room where 3 very old, thin, worn mats were stored. Just my experience. I understand Hale is newer and has better equipment, but I would really love to see better class options offered at Indian Valley while I am living in the area as the biggest improvement this facility could make. This Y is at least clean and front desk is friendly.
This has to be the best YMCA I've been to! From their phenomenal services to the amazing employees, it's a five star spot! I also get physical therapy here and having the pool and jacuzzi makes it feel like a spa! Highly recommend
My son just had his first swim class with Kelly and I am highly impressed. He was pretty scared to swim without mom, Kelly was patient, empathetic and showed confidence while helping my little guy. As a mom it was wonderful to feel supported, Kelly really handled the situation and now my son is excited to go back next week.
