I went to Hurricane my junior year of high school on a school trip and loved it so much that I came back to volunteer this past summer, after my senior year. The staff are dedicated, passionate, and so welcoming, and the dedication to sustainability and care for the land is truly inspiring. Plus, I always see the most beautiful sunsets and eat the most delicious food when I'm on Hurricane Island! In regards to the negative reviews: it is an island and an immersion in nature, which means there are sometimes bugs and cold nights and cold water. It's worth it to invest in a good sleeping bag and a good mindset; this is part of the experience and something to grow from. The cabins are cleaned after every group and I always had very positive experiences with my accommodation. Could not recommend it enough, and I hope to continue going back to volunteer or get involved for the rest of my life!
★Kyle RovelliVery disgusting camp conditions, mold and carpenter were present in all of the bunks. Bedbugs were present during my stay and the counselors knew but didn't bother to exterminate them. Overall disgusting conditions, worst experience of my entire life, do not stay here.

I read the negative reviews and well, it is an island, so yes there were bugs, cold water, conservation efforts etc. That is part of what makes this program amazing. My daughter hasn't stopped talking about her experience. It is so beautiful listening to her and her experience. She is already asking to go back. Such an amazing job and I look forward to her going again!
