As the mother of an eight-year-old student, who has been part of HUSA Seasonal Soccer since he was three years old and has attended HUSA Summer Camp since its very first year, I truly appreciate and support for Coach Sullivan and his entire staff. Their impact on my son—and our family—has been truly profound. My son is on the autism spectrum (high functioning), and from the very beginning, Coach Sullivan and his team met him with patience, consistency, and genuine care. They never treated him as a problem to manage, but as a child to nurture. Through their guidance, my son has grown tremendously in confidence, emotional regulation, and sportsmanship. He has learned how to be part of a team, how to handle wins and losses with maturity, and how to believe in himself in ways that extend far beyond the soccer field. The love and attentiveness Coach Sullivan and his staff show all of the children is evident in every interaction. They model kindness, discipline, and encouragement, creating a safe and structured environment where children are able to grow at their own pace. For my son, this environment has been life-changing. I can say without hesitation that our lives would be significantly different had Coach Sullivan and his programs not been part of our journey. Beyond coaching, he has shown true humanity and professionalism by supporting our family during times of financial hardship through program scholarships. That generosity ensured that my son never had to miss out on opportunities that were critical to his development & his valued friendships, and it is something I will always be deeply grateful for. Coach Sullivan and his staff embody what youth programs should be—inclusive, compassionate, and transformative. We thank him for his time and for his leadership. I respectfully encourage continued district and city support for Coach Sullivan and programs like HUSA. These initiatives are not simply sports programs—they are vital community resources that foster inclusion, social development, and emotional growth for children of all abilities.
