The Glastonbury Family YMCA runs Camp Glawackus, a state-licensed day camp for ages 5 to 11 in South Glastonbury, plus a teen camp for ages 12 to 15. Campers take part in field trips, arts and crafts, archery, STEM, nature, sports and swimming throughout the summer.

★Judy BurrThe Glastonbury Y WAS a God send a few years ago when it was new - it transferred the classes and instructors from the old building to the new building. We all had much anticipation. My favorite yoga instructor and two other favorite fitness instructors all disappeared within a month leaving full classes and then a new fitness and yoga instructor appeared and I, my husband and others came back until the letter in December 2024. Is Glastonbury Y just about preschool and children !’? There is mismanagement someplace…why didn’t appeals go out to the Glastonbury community and surrounding town adult populations for younger recruitment if money is the issue? I live across the border in Manchester and brought in also a nearby Hartford resident. Ellington and Hartford are not viable solutions!
★Sal SinsigalliSo the Y decided to stop workouts and memberships at the Glastonbury facility starting Dec 31! I am angered, frustrated, and pissed off that you have decided to make this decision. I have sent numerous emails asking why, with no response, what so ever! There are many seniors who utilize this facility because of its location, intimacy, and quietness. Asking many elder folks to use either the Hartford or Ellington facility is a huge pain in the butt. There was no reason given, but like everything else, it's probably a financial decision. Maybe the CEO of the Y can throw in a few bucks from his 6 figure salary to help keep this open for the many people who live locally and use this facility quite often! In the many folks I've talked to at the Glastonbury facility, they donated a LOT of money over the years to the Y. That will no longer be happening according to several folks whom I shared the facility with. They were very angry of this absurd decision. And the classes that they offered were always pretty much filled, which disputes what we were told, that attendance was dwindling, again being lied to by corporate YMCA.

Both if our sons also participated in the after school ski program, which is impressively run. My older son is now in the Leader in Training program. Just great people.
★★★★★Kris10p22Glastonbury YMCA Camp Glawackus is a camp where everybody knows your name. The staff are so great with the kids and they were very sensitive to my son's needs while at camp. I had a discussion with the staff at the start of the day and shared my concerns and during the day they called me to let me know he was doing great and having a blast. It really put my mind at ease as a parent. My son really enjoyed his time there. He really loved the specialty camps they offered and looks forward to going back.
