Girls Inc. of the Berkshires is a program of the Gladys Allen Brigham Community Center in Pittsfield and an affiliate of national Girls Inc. Its summer offering is Camp Stevenson-Witawentin, a day camp for girls from completion of Kindergarten to age 15 on Onota Lake at 600 Churchill Street, running eight weeks from late June through late August, 8:30am-4:30pm, at $220 per week. Days combine traditional camp — swimming, boating, nature, drama, art, sports and team-building — with Girls Inc. evidence-based programming and literacy, art and science activities intended to reduce summer learning loss. Staff ratios are 1:10 (1:5 for campers age 6 and under), transportation is provided throughout Pittsfield, breakfast and lunch come free through the Pittsfield Public Schools Summer Food Program, financial assistance is available on a limited basis for income-eligible families, and the camp is licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
