Get Ahead Math & Engineering LLC · Private

Get Ahead Math & Engineering (GAME) is a Lafayette company run by local parents that teaches advanced math, science and engineering. Its summer offering is the Physics Playground camp, two one-week sessions (June 22-26 and July 27-31, 2026) taught by instructors holding a PhD and a master's in engineering, in which kids design and build everything from basic components rather than kits - gear-and-pulley structures, siege machines and marble runs one week, and LED circuits, telescopes, musical instruments and lanterns the next. Sessions run 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., a half-day schedule, with extended care from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and a packed lunch eaten outdoors. Registration and payment run through Lafayette Parks and Recreation, and group size is small.

My son absolutely loves his after-school physics class. Maria and David are wonderful — patient, enthusiastic, and great at explaining science concepts. My son comes home every week proud of a new project and even more excited about physics. We're happy to sign him up for the next session!

Our son loves these classes! The projects he comes home with are amazing and he talks about the concepts and practical applications of what he has learned all the time. The teachers are kind, engaged and very responsive to questions. Highly recommend!

Our 5 year old LOVES the physics playground class that David and Maria teach. It's a wonderful balance of structure/guidance (around the STEM principle) and freedom to create based on one's own ideas. Each week they make a new design that teaches a STEM concept (or a combination of concepts) that is developmentally appropriate and fun! Highly recommend this for a child who is curious about building and creating.

This is like being part of a science show, a la Bill Nye the Science Guy, but in real life. They have an impressive setup of Levers, Pulleys, and "simple" machines...which ties into math and physics concepts across all levels. Instructors are skilled at adjusting the experience to be spark kids' curiosity across different age groups. We were part of a homeschool group with ages 6 to 10, and instructors were great at leveling the lesson to get everyone involved.
