Genesis Health Clubs - Merle Hay is a solid choice in Des Moines. Plenty of space and a motivating, friendly atmosphere. Great facilities and the staff were genuinely helpful. Highly recommend it and I'll be back for sure.

Genesis on Merle hay is okay. Equipment is basic especially when compared to what is out there at more locally owned gyms in DSM metro. Merle hay Genesis really needs an update they don’t have the music on because, they say it’s doesn’t work. The TVs usually have some type of issue. The staff is ok, there are a couple of staff members that are nice and friendly. This is mainly a male younger dominated gym think frat bros. 3-5 years ago the staff was more mixed with female and male, age ranges of all sorts. Now it’s just seems like we have our friends working there and are chitchatting at the front desk. If crunch was not as busy I would definitely go there instead of here. If you are wanting a gym that is not busy, you can get in out of I would go here.

I love the Genesis Health Clubs – Merle Hay location! My personal trainer, Austin, is the best. He makes every workout challenging while also making sure your form is correct so you don’t injure yourself. He has a very positive personality and genuinely wants the best for his clients. I would highly recommend training with him. I also really enjoy the group classes—especially Turf Time with Keshawn. It’s a great workout and a lot of fun!

I’ve been working with my personal trainer, Austin Hunter, for over three months now, and the experience has been fantastic. From day one, he took the time to really listen to my goals—getting into better shape and building muscle—and created workouts specifically designed to help me reach them. He consistently pushes me to improve while keeping sessions motivating and approachable. Austin is personable, knowledgeable, and an excellent coach who clearly cares about his clients’ progress. If you’re serious about investing in your health and fitness, I’d highly recommend working with Austin to help you achieve your goals.

At other Genesis locations they put a neat little pyramid of towels in the locker room for your convenience. At this one they make you sign them out at the front desk like a copper cup at a dive bar. One of the hand dryers in the locker room blasts cold air because it has broken heating element and it has been that way literally for years. The condenser in the drinking fountain isn't working and it puts out hot water. The soap dispensers are perpetually empty. At least one of the toilets is out of order at any given time. The locker room carpet has never been vacuumed. The worst Genesis location in the metro.
