My wife & I attended two weekend Tier I junior hockey games at MAEC RecPlex, United States Hockey League Des Moines Buccaneers hosting the Under-17 Team USA squad on Abel Ice Arena Rink #1. The facility has plenty of free lot parking to accommodate hockey attendance & simultaneous recreational events. The RecPlex's 2-story entry lobby is brightly lit & uncluttered. The Arena staff were very friendly. Seating is relatively comfortable (bundling up for hockey games is recommended), with good ice surface sightlines from the higher rows of the single tier bowl and in standing room spaces around three sides of the rink by the upper concourse. MAEC RecPlex is one of the more modern & attractive municipal ice facilities that we've visited across the U.S..

Love going to this place to watch my son play hockey. Sometimes, I get there early and have a chance to watch figure skating practice. It's absolutely amazing to watch in person if you never have. I highly recommend it.

This place is amazing! (2) hockey rinks; (1) full sized indoor soccer fields- which is often split into 3 smaller fields; (2) hardcourt volleyball courts; (2) full sized hardcourt basketball courts; a multipurpose basketball/pickleball court area; (2) designated pickleball courts, multiple indoor batting cages. They have concessions for sale and rooms for rent. And that’s just what’s inside! They have designated drop in times for reasonable rates, ongoing leagues of many kinds, and you can rent courts/fields/areas for pretty low rates as well! So if you just want to check out some local hockey, or you want to get in some drop in play of many sports- this is a great place for you! I have a feeling my family and I will be frequent patrons here!
