Encore Stage & Studio is an Arlington children's theater, founded in 1967, that runs summer theatre camps for ages 3-15 across Arlington and Alexandria. Camps are grouped by age: a Pre-K camp for ages 3-5, It's Elementary for younger elementary campers, Scenes for Tweens week-long themed camps (scene study, commedia dell'arte and mask work, improv), and Stage Door & Tech Camp for older students, who spend mornings on performance skills and afternoons in rehearsal to see how theatre professionals work. Most sessions run one week and end in a sharing for families. Encore is a nonprofit that charges no fee to audition or participate in its school-year productions, and scholarships are available for all camp programs.

They had a special program before the play that allowed kids to go up and have some fun on stage, which helped him feel comfortable in that space. She's now in college and my relationship with Encore continues, as my other two are still involved in Encore productions. The shows are clever and appropriate, and the atmosphere for the kids involved is engaging and positive. My three kids are all very different from one another, and yet each has had such a wonderful experience being a part of the Encore team, making friends of different ages and genders, starting out as little ones who learned from others and growing to acquire more responsibility. Really, the level of input and responsibility given to these kids is remarkable and unique. Encore is a true benefit to our community.
