This YMCA need remodeling, new machines and new staff. Completely rude and unprofessional staff. In comparison to other YMCAs I have visited, Columbia North is by far theeeee worst in many ways and it’s very disappointing

Super clean pool. I took adult swim lessons and learned in 5/8 classes! Tim was an outstanding swim instructor and really helped zero in on what I had to improve on in each class. 10/10

I have been using this Y since 85.. it has been good not perfect. But it has low key been taken from the communities members. Gentrification and the fact Temple has monopolized the area recreational options , has area youth and adults being shut out or given less access to facilities that use to serve their community.

I am extremely disappointed with how this YMCA handled a serious child safety issue and the events that followed. I'm honestly hurt from this situation because after being the only parents with all we've done for the staff showing nothing but respect and generosity such catered lunch and breakfast, and teacher appreciation gifts this situation has been nothing but betrayal for a corporate cover up for the newly managed staff at this facility. My 4-year-old son was repeatedly bullied by another child in the daycare/preschool program — including being hit on numerous occasions and having his belongings taken on camera by not only the child but by the parent as well. Multiple concerns were raised with staff, yet no meaningful action was taken. Eventually, I received a call informing me that my son had been punched in the face, causing his lip to bleed. To make matters worse, my son told me a day prior that a staff member physically pushed him as punishment for flushing the toilet twice in his words. that same day we witnessed the staff member get in a child's face and repeatedly yell at her to mind her business and to put her doll away as a punishment but the little girl was just telling our son that his parents were here. When I raised these concerns, instead of prioritizing child safety and accountability, the focus shifted away from my child and onto me. That same staff member escalated the situation by following me, using profanity, insulting me, and making violent threats toward me. Despite this, management later claimed that I was the individual who threatened staff because there was a young staff member and a therapist who allegedly witnessed the encounter who may have biased and uncredible statements aiding their fellow co worker — all without presenting any audio, video, or objective evidence to support that allegation. The following day, I spoke directly with facility management and apologized for any actions, that would have been out of character for a parent, further explaining that I was extremely upset due to my son being repeatedly harmed, and that he continued to play with the child only because he was afraid of him. As a result of how this situation was handled: • I was banned from the entire YMCA facility, including areas unrelated to childcare. The staff member who also threatened me and verbally and physically assaulting the children is currently still employed there. • My son — the victim — was isolated from other children and made to sit alone • The child who repeatedly bullied him remained fully enrolled and unaffected • Higher-level leadership later stated they had received no prior complaints from the on-site manager, raising serious concerns regarding internal reporting and transparency This response appears retaliatory and focused on protecting staff rather than ensuring the safety and well-being of children. Isolating a 4-year-old who was bullied while leaving the aggressor unaffected is unacceptable. Given the seriousness of these events, I am exhausting all available options and avenues for accountability, including formal complaints and potential legal action, to ensure my child’s safety and to prevent this from happening to other families. Parents deserve transparency, accountability, and a safe environment for their children. Unfortunately, this location failed on all three.

We love the swimming class for our toddler at the YMCA! She has so much fun every time and looks forward to it every week. The instructors are so kind and patient with the children. It’s been a wonderful experience watching her grow more confident in the water while having such a great time.
