I attended “Their Eyes Were Watching God” this weekend. It was a great performance. There is one change that would be beneficial, the order of the show. The second half, after intermission, should be the first half & the first half should be the last half. I say this because there is a big energy shift between the two halves. Initially the audience is awake & eager to observe, so they will pay attention regardless. Therefore, Zora’s story needed to be told first because it is slower, less energetic. End it with the timeline for the second half, past to present, with more energy & a sense of purpose, relatability. In reading the audience, nonverbal behaviors, the switch-up would be beneficial to the production & most definitely to the reception & energy of the audience. This was my first show by your company & I will definitely be coming back for more. Overall, I greatly enjoyed!!
We moved to Memphis about 6 months ago and are so delighted with the arts and particularly the dance scene here. We saw Collage's recent production of Firebird and it was absolutely brilliant. Immediately bought tickets for their next show (Rise) as well. Can't wait!
My first time visiting 💖I was blown away ..such positivity flowing through this place...brought tears to my eyes .. I will support from now on ...those young ladies and men so talented ..
My daughter attended a Collage Summer Dance Intensive. I found the level of instruction to be professional and excellent. She advanced more in 2 weeks than she had in 4 years of dance. The intensive was very challenging but provided a real view of what it means to be on a professional track as opposed to recreational. While she realizes that she dances for recreation she has gained a professional eye as well as wonderful friends that she met during this time. I feel we both gained far more than the small fee they charged.
