Powered by GoogleCamp Walt Whitman is an incredibly special place and has been a second home for both my boys for the past 7 years. They've had the most amazing summers, created lifelong friendships and grown so much from their camp experiences. And I can't say enough about the camp directors- Jed and Carolyn - who have created a super fun, positive and supportive environment. They are so special and always go and above and beyond to make sure the kids are happy and having the best summer possible. And all the counselors and staff have been fantastic every year. Highly, highly recommend!!
Six years ago our daughter came home from Kindergarten and said: there are kids who sleep at a camp and I want that. She was relentless in her desire to be a camper. I did a bunch of research and made a list of what I wanted: a caring, non-competitive environment, family owned, co-ed, balance of sports and arts, and bunk counselors don’t have multiple roles and responsibilities. The minute I found Camp Walt Whitman I knew it was “the one”. Not only did it tick every box on my list, it also emphasizes independence. Family owned was very important to me because I wanted a camp that has a genuine personal passion for creating memorable summer experiences for kids. Carolyn and Jed are third generation owners of the camp and were in direct contact with us this minute we sent our first email and every year they take each kid into consideration and help to formulate a summer that works for that individual. Walt Whitman exceeded all our expectations. We consider it one of the best financial choices we have ever made. Our daughter found a love of hiking which we now share together. She has made amazing friends that she talks to on a daily basis. Each summer she returns to us with more understanding of who she is and how she wants to navigate the world. Our son had his first year of Pioneer camp last year and is already eager to return for new adventures next year. He’s a much different kid than our daughter and they met him exactly where is at and provided an amazing experience that he still talks about on a daily basis. It was amazing to experience just how personal they get with each kid. Writing this now, I realize that Carolyn and Jed are helping us to raise our kids. To say that we are grateful feels too small to encapsulate the grace and joy Walt Whitman has offered our family.
The absolute best sleep-away camp!! Camp Walt Whitman is my three children's collective happy place, and they are all very different kids! We've been a CWW family for 8 years and have many more coming. They do it right with a great balance of values, love of nature, sports, amazing creative activities and a true sense of belonging for the campers. Can not recommend this wonderful camp enough.
Our son spent 7 weeks at Camp Walt Whitman last year (his first summer away) and he had an amazing experience. Jed and Carolyn run a camp like no other I have seen. There is a warmth and kindness that exists at CWW that is palpable. The kids have access to everything from sports to the arts to special events that are unique to CWW (intentional hiking program, square dancing etc). All kids are valued for what they bring and enjoy and are challenged to venture outside of their comfort zones. We know CWW will be a part of our family for years to come and look forward to watching our son grow up there!
Amazing camp, more amazing people! We just finished Family camp week and it was perfect. Lots to do and see, great water activities, lots of sports and dancing. We had a wonderful time. Food was great. The team and management are outstanding and doing their best to help with anything.
