Camp Strake is the Sam Houston Area Council's Scouts BSA property, hosting a week-long, council-organized overnight summer camp where Scouts earn merit badges. Set on 2,816 acres bordered on three sides by the Sam Houston National Forest near Coldspring, it offers shooting sports, climbing and rappelling, an aquatics center on a private lake (canoeing, kayaking, sailing), ziplining, mountain biking and ATVs. As the only council with a NASA Space Act Agreement, it also runs space- and STEM-focused merit badge programs. Nonprofit Scouting America program.

★★★★★Ethan BauderUsed to be a Scout at Camp Strake since 2021. Had such a blast and so many memories were made there. I've earned at least 14 merit badges through Strake in my scouting career. The food is pretty good, the staff are really nice, and the lake is so beautiful! Then once I Eagled but still wanted to experience it again, I staffed there for 2025 Summer Camp. Fast forwarding 2 weeks after leaving, I miss it more then EVER!!! It was SO fun working along side all the lovely staffers, I had a BLAST teaching and helping scouts, but most of all the scenery is absolutely STUNNING. I cannot WAIT to go back!!!!!!!!!
