Camp Shout Out is a week-long overnight camp for youth who stutter, ages 8-18, created in 2011 and held at a Michigan camp property — its inaugural session ran at Pioneer Trails Camp on Big Blue Lake near Muskegon. It brings campers together with stuttering experts, speech-language pathologists, graduate students and camp staff, and its guided activities are designed to help each participant grow as an individual and a communicator through positive, natural interaction rather than clinical drill. Teens entering grades 9-12 may enroll in the LIT program, which builds problem-solving, leadership, relationship-building and character skills. The camp doubles as a hands-on training opportunity for graduate students and practising speech pathologists.

It’s hands-on, real-time learning where you plan, practice, and problem-solve alongside an incredibly supportive team of specialists, SLPs, graduate students, and volunteers who all share a passion for helping kids who stutter! I left not only with stronger clinical skills, but with more confidence, clarity, and community than I’ve ever gained from any other professional experience.
