Discovery Wilderness School runs hands-on outdoor learning on private property in Comstock Park, north of Grand Rapids, serving ages 2-18 across its programs with summer campers in the ages 5-15 range. The curriculum is discovery-based, using the natural world as the catalyst: campers process wild edibles, do woodworking, build and cook over a fire, handcraft, canoe and build shelters, developing a connection to nature and to one another. Programs are organized by age band, including parent/child Sprouts classes for ages 2-5 and Willows for ages 7-8, which mix exploration, social time and creative play around a weekly nature-study theme. Daily hours are not published; contact the school for the current schedule.

Powered by GoogleI highly recommend this school as an adjunct to any homeschool group. My boys have been here for a few years now, and I do recommend this program. Everyone is caring, and they've made friends each year in the program.
I cannot say enough good things about the program. Our busy boy participated for two years. It’s very organized and ran well, even with the location change this year I feel like they pivoted well. We loved Ms. Dana and Mr. Drew! Great for children that love the outdoors.
My son has grown so much in this program socially and emotionally! His knowledge of nature has expanded immensely as well as his empathy.
