Camp Hendon is a medically-supervised overnight summer camp for children ages 8-17 with type 1 diabetes, run by the nonprofit Kentucky Diabetes Camp for Children and founded in 1965. It offers two one-week residential sessions where campers manage their diabetes alongside peers and trained medical staff while enjoying traditional camp activities. The organization also runs a weekend Family Camp and Teen Camp.

Powered by GoogleCamp Hendon is an absolutely amazing organization. It was such a blessing to find, shortly after our 12 year old was diagnosed with T1D. It’s been a great resource for us, as parents. And, our daughter has found her “tribe”. I cannot say enough good things about Camp Hendon!
Camp Hendon was a life line when my daughter was first diagnosed with T1D. They helped our family find our way. My daughter has made life long friends and LOVES every minute of anything that Camp Hendon puts on! Camp Hendon is growing and changing and our family is grateful for the growth and are enjoying learning new things while also meeting new people. Our family would highly recommend.
My son Korbin has attended Camp Hendon for 3 years now. He looks forward to this ALL YEAR LONG! He said it is the one week he gets to feel "normal" since everyone has to do the same things and understands. It has prompted independence when it comes to his care, build friendships with kids from around the state, and helped with his own self confidence. All the staff we have encountered go above and beyond for not just the kids at camp, but for the families too. Camp Hendon isn't just a summer camp, they offer family camps and outings throughout the year. I will forever be thankful that we found Camp Hendon!
Camp Hendon is an absolute lifeline for families with Type 1 diabetes! Our son has been a camper here and it’s one of the few things he gets excited about since his diagnosis. He had mostly stopped participating in sports and social activities, but he never misses a chance to go to camp. The entire team is amazing, and we've been so grateful for the many opportunities they offer, including family weekends and "bring a buddy" weekends. It's a supportive, fun environment that has given our son his spark back. We are so thankful for Camp Hendon!
Truly can't say enough wonderful things about this organization! Our son was diagnosed with T1D a year ago, and from our very first camp outing (Day Camp Spring 2024), the staff and volunteers at Camp Hendon have embraced and taken care of our son like family. He now attends every single camp outing he can, has made some amazing friendships, and learned so much more about his diagnosis. Thank you Camp Hendon for all you do - we appreciate you so! :)
