Camp Colton is Flagstaff Unified School District's outdoor environmental education center on a 33-acre off-grid campus on the western slope of the San Francisco Peaks, 30 minutes from downtown Flagstaff and surrounded by the Coconino National Forest. During the school year roughly 1,500 students a year attend grade-specific expeditions on ecology, drought, native animals and forest health. In summer it runs week-long programs: Colton Adventure Camp for 4th and 5th graders and the STEM Environmental Enrichment and Discovery (SEED) Summer Experience for 7th and 8th graders, in which students lead their own research projects at Hart Prairie. The nonprofit Friends of Camp Colton supports the program financially.
