Camp Chatuga is a traditional co-ed overnight (sleepaway) camp in Mountain Rest, built around its own private lake on 60 acres bordering national forest in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Campers ages 6-16 (rising 1st-11th grade) choose from more than 30 activities including horseback riding, water-skiing, archery, outdoor living skills, animal care, arts and crafts, and court and field sports. Sessions run from six days up to four weeks, with a girls-only horse camp session offered; the camper-to-counselor ratio is 4:1.

The camp is the quintessential summer camp where kids are outdoors being kids, trying new things, making new friends, in a safe, nurturing place. My kids had an incredible time and have already told their friends back at home all about camp and how they can’t wait for next summer. The staff at camp is incredible and have found a really great balance for first time campers’ families with how they communicate about how the campers are doing. They are very responsive and helpful and consistently go the extra mile. We’ll be back next summer for sure! Our family highly recommends Chatuga!

Chatuga has AMAZING staff, and I love that it gives kids the opportunity to socialize with new people from all over and offers activities that they may not have access to at home. Her first year, she had a medical issue pop up while at camp and the staff took such good care of her, communicated with me often, and sent me personal photos of her while hanging out with the nurses. I would highly recommend Chatuga to anyone looking for a super fun, safe, and reliable camp. We were very nervous sending her the first year, she stayed a whole week at 6 years old. When it was time to pick her up, she didn’t even want to come home! She would spend her entire summer there if we let her!
