Camp Ross is a truly special place, tucked deep in the mountains of Goshen, Virginia. From the moment you arrive, you’re surrounded by the kind of natural beauty that feels untouched forests, rivers, trails, and fresh mountain air. It’s the perfect setting for scouts to unplug from everyday life and immerse themselves in outdoor adventure and personal growth. There’s a lot to love about Camp Ross, from the well-run merit badge classes to the sense of community that builds throughout the week. But one of the absolute highlights without question is the Aqua area. The Aqua staff at Camp Ross are phenomenal. They go above and beyond to create a fun, safe, and welcoming environment for every scout, regardless of skill level. Whether your camper is a first-time swimmer or already comfortable in the water, the Aqua staff meet them where they are and help them build both skills and confidence. They’re constantly encouraging, upbeat, and fully engaged with the scouts. You can tell they care deeply not just about safety (which they manage with total professionalism), but also about making sure each scout has a great time on the water. From instructional swim and free swim to canoeing and games on the lake, the Aqua area is one of the most energizing, well-run parts of Camp Ross. Scouts leave the waterfront smiling, tired in the best way, and proud of what they accomplished. For many, it’s the highlight of the whole week. Beyond Aqua, the camp is well organized and thoughtfully staffed. The counselors and leaders across the board are enthusiastic, respectful, and clearly committed to the mission of scouting. Meals are solid, campsites are clean, and the daily schedule strikes a great balance between structured activities and free time. There’s a strong sense of tradition and pride at Camp Ross from flag ceremonies to campfire programs and it helps foster real teamwork, independence, and character. It’s the kind of experience scouts will talk about all year long. If you're looking for a camp that delivers real outdoor adventure, life skills, and lasting memories, Camp Ross is an outstanding choice. Especially if your scout loves the water — the Aqua program and staff truly make it shine.

Camp Ross at Goshen Scout Reservation is an absolutely amazing place for scouts of all ages. From the moment we arrived, the energy and dedication of the staff was clear — but I have to give a special shoutout to the Handicraft area and the incredible team running it. The Handicraft staff are some of the most patient, creative, and encouraging people you’ll meet. They created a fun and welcoming space where scouts could really express themselves while learning new skills. Whether it was leatherworking, basketry, woodcarving, or painting, they made every project exciting and accessible — even for first-timers. What stood out the most was how they balanced instruction with independence. They didn’t just hand out kits and walk away — they actively engaged with each scout, offered guidance when needed, and made sure everyone left feeling proud of what they created. You can tell the Handicraft staff truly love what they do, and that passion rubs off on the scouts. For many in our group, it ended up being their favorite part of the whole week. If you’re heading to Camp Ross, make sure to spend time at Handicraft — you won’t regret it!

Ross is boss! This was my fourth time at camp Ross since 2006, and definitely the best. They have consistently improved the quality of the staff, facilities, program and food over these years. It was a great week for me and my Den of seven scouts. We'll definitely be back next year.
