Camp Barstow is a Scouting America (Boy Scouts) summer camp on more than 300 acres along Lake Murray, operated by the Indian Waters Council. The overnight program is merit-badge based and centers on the waterfront: canoeing, kayaking, sailing, swimming, fishing, and waterskiing, alongside rifle and 5-stand shotgun shooting, archery, climbing, rappelling, and a COPE course. Scouts normally attend with their troop for a week-long session, but the Baden Powell Scout program lets individual Scouts attend any week as part of a provisional troop under an adult leader.

My daughter spent a week at Camp Barstow as a "Baden-Powell Scout" without her troop last summer. She was paired up with a local troop, and quickly made friends. In fact, by the end of the week, the scouts had forgotten she lived two states away! Program highlights included the ecology boat tour and the Throwback Thursday store.

This is a magical outdoor-based sleepaway camp for kids who are young and "young at heart". For both campers and staff alike, there is learning, exercise, camping, dirt, more dirt, Lake Murray, long days of fun, archery, merit badges, and friendship. Highly recommend... even factoring in the two hour round trip drive from Columbia! A great place for young men to spend summers having a blast growing up.
