This is an excellent place for kids to go to after school to run off the extra energy in the gym and room to study or read and draw. They have a large TV and pool table. Very well supervised. My great-niece loves to go and join her school friends.

My child attended the Boys and Girls Club in Montgomery Alabama for a year or a little over a year. What drew me to the club was the online descriptions of how the Boys and Girls Club were there for empowering teens, helping teens, teaching them life skills, etc. Online and on paper the club sounded really nice. It sounded like something that would make a huge impact in the life of a child. Reality: I first visited the Boys and Girls Club off lower Wetumpka rd. in Montgomery Alabama. IT WAS AWFUL. There was absolutely no order, no control, dirty, stinky, and total chaos. Trash all over the floors, floors sticky and rooms cluttered and disorganized. I was beyond shocked. This program looked like NOTHING described online about the Boys and Girls Clubs. I went to the office to continue my tour, and even their work space was chaotic, disorganized, messy, junky, etc. I was over it. I was ready to leave. I told them thank you and left. I then went the Boys and Girls Club on Crenshaw in Montgomery Alabama. This facility was larger, cleaner, not clean, but cleaner. The staff were present and observing the children, and correcting unacceptable behaviors, they were friendly and it was more organized. I was ok with completing this tour. I did not hate this program, my only concern was that all the offerings that were online did not actually happen. The teens usually played, went on a field trip every once in a while, then played some more. They did basketball, computer and regular games. The life experiences weren't present, the empowerment was present, the goals the club hoped to set were not there. I dont know if its underfunded but it was the potential to do great things with the right help. This club in present in several childrens lives, it should have a WAY BETTER impact than what it has.
