Behind all the glitz and glamour, there is a deeply toxic and unprofessional environment running this Nutcracker program. I was genuinely shocked by how many volunteers and individuals involved treated both parents and children. Never in my life did I expect to encounter this level of disrespect after voluntarily enrolling my child in what should be a nurturing and organized program. The program itself was extremely unorganized, with little to no guidance provided to parents. There were no clear instructions, no signage, and no communication about what was expected, where to go, or what not to do. This lack of structure created unnecessary stress and confusion for everyone involved. What was most troubling, however, was the behavior of some volunteer mothers. Many were rude, dismissive, and openly harsh. I witnessed adults speaking to young girls in raised, sharp tones—correcting them in ways I would never speak to my own child. When fixing the girls’ hair, I saw pulling and poking, followed by dismissive comments when the children expressed discomfort, telling them it “didn’t hurt.” This is completely unacceptable. I want to be clear that I have no issue with the ballet teachers or the administrative staff. My concern is specifically with how the Nutcracker program is being run and the environment it fosters. The structure—or lack of it—seems to encourage hostility rather than care, and that reflects directly onto the children. Parents should be cautious. Pay close attention to how your child is treated, especially by other volunteer adults. No program should make children feel intimidated or dismissed. For these reasons, I will never enroll my child in this program again. This experience was deeply disappointing and does not align with the values of respect, professionalism, and care that should be central to working with children.

We miss the old Ballet Hawaii studio location BUT the wide open spaces, large bathroom, and vast parking are nice changes. Great repurposing of the unused Dole Cannery ballrooms to make their transition into a successful one.
