Ajax Sleepaway is an overnight adventure camp on a 320-acre ranch in Meredith, in the upper Frying Pan valley near Aspen, for kids ages 8-13. Campers choose one- or two-week sessions and take part in rock climbing, archery, fishing, ziplining, canoeing, hiking, and campfires, plus light morning ranch chores such as feeding chickens and tending the garden. It keeps a small enrollment (about 40) with a roughly 1:2 staff-to-camper ratio.

We loved that she had some choice in her activities throughout the stay, which also meant she had time with a variety of kids instead of just her cabin mates during the stay. We were able to send emails and also see pictures that were posted on Instagram along with nightly emails that shared meals and activities for the day. So glad we found this camp!

The staff took great care of the kids while giving them tons of freedom and options to really experience the mountains- zip lining, paddle boards, exploring, nightly games and campfires, etc. They had excellent options for every meal - all of the kids raved about the food. We were so impressed with communication both before and during the camp- I didn’t expect email updates while the camp was in session. It was great to hear about what the campers were doing and what food they had. I have to say, we were a little jealous of her experience and hope they will do an adult camp someday :) We can’t wait to have our kiddo return to Ajax for a longer camp!
