ADA Camp New Horizons North

Camp New Horizons is the American Diabetes Association's day camp for children living with diabetes, held in Dallas at the Camp Wisdom site; the ADA says it has run since 1985 and served more than 4,300 campers. The camp day runs 8:30am to 3:30pm and includes crafts, sports, hiking, swimming, a ropes course and a petting zoo, concluding with a family picnic. Campers are supervised by trained volunteers and health care professionals experienced in diabetes management, with a clinician team the ADA describes as providing round-the-clock care and health professionals licensed in the state where the camp is held, and the programme teaches independent diabetes management skills. A counselor-in-training track serves ages 16-17, and the ADA lists full, sponsored and financial-assistance price tiers, stating that nearly half of its families receive assistance and that no child is turned away because of cost.

Fadi was absolutely amazing! He made the entire experience so much fun from start to finish. He was energetic, funny, and kept everyone engaged while making sure we all felt safe and had a great time. You can tell he genuinely enjoys what he does, and his attitude made the day even better. If you’re coming here, I definitely recommend asking for Fadi—you won’t regret it! Thanks for making it such a memorable experience!

We recently took our Girl Scout troop to Camp Ascend this past weekend and had a wonderful experience. Throughout the planning and our stay, we were in constant communication with the camp manager, Mr. Fadi, and we truly appreciated working with him. Mr. Fadi was incredibly patient with all of our questions, flexible with our needs, and very accommodating throughout the entire process. He followed the schedule we provided for activities and meals, which made everything run smoothly. The cabins were clean and well-maintained, and the cafeteria food was enjoyable. The cafeteria staff also went out of their way to accommodate our special requests, which we really appreciated. Our group had an amazing time participating in activities like BB guns, archery, horseback riding, and the hayride. It was a memorable experience for everyone involved. We highly recommend working with Mr. Fadi and Camp Ascend!

The staff were so kind and patient, especially for someone like me who doesn’t ride often. The horses were gentle, well cared for, and clearly loved by the people who work there. The trail was beautiful—peaceful scenery, open skies, and such a relaxing ride. I felt completely safe and welcome the entire time. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced rider, I highly recommend this place. It was an unforgettable experience, and I can’t wait to come back!

My bestie surprised me with horse riding for a belated birthday gift and this was such a sweet experience. Christian and Donovan were so kind and informative! They took great care of us while on our ride and we had a blast chatting with them. You can tell the horsies are well taken care of and loved - I wish I could spend all of my time here. Thanks so much Christian!! 🤎🤎

Andrew was fantastic! We had such a nice time. He was patient, kind and entertaining. He did a great job matching our horses. We all felt we got the perfect horse for each of us. The 7 am slot is the best one for this summer heat! It was the perfect weather. The trails are beautiful and nicely shaded. This was a wonderful experience.
