Took the 3-day marine diesel course (Jan 2026) taught by Tibor. It was excellent. Very hands-on with a 2 cylinder Yanmar and a 3 cylinder Universal engine that were mounted on small carts for easy access and teaching. Tibor is a great teacher. The course material and schedule was well-organized and well-executed. Came in knowing pretty much nothing about diesel engines except that they don't have spark plugs. Came out knowing how a marine diesel engine works, how the electrical, starting, cooling, air in/exhaust, and fuel systems on a small marine work in theory. And in practice since we had to diagnose and correct common problems in all of these systems on both engines. The $900 tuition is not cheap, but, in my experience, worth it given all the practical stuff you can learn in this course. Especially the hand's on part, and how much you can expect save by being able to do routine maintenance yourself, being able to diagnose and fix common problems, and extending the life of an (expensive) engine. ' If you have a boat with a diesel engine or are thinking about getting one, I highly recommend this course. It was also a lot of fun.

I highly recommend Victoria Sailing School (VSS). They have seasoned, very experienced, professional sailing instructors. I less than 3 weeks, I was able to get ASA 101 and ASA 103 certified, thanks to the well-organized sailing theory, knots training and nine on-the-water sailing "practicals" that enabled me to pass the ASA exams. The VSS portal for sailing students is very well organized and easy to use for scheduling and accessing ASA sailing theory training materials and scheduling practicals and exams. During the first theory or knots class, you get to choose which PFD you want (one included PFD, or two others for an additional fee). For ASA 101, we practiced on J22 keelboats. For ASA 103, we practices on J30 keelboats. They have morning or afternoon sailing "practicals" available. Once you pass the ASA exams, VSS submits the paperwork to ASA for you and ASA mails the certification stickers to you. You then have the option of joining ASA and the VSS Why Buy Club (where you can rent J22 sailboats in four different large Colorado lakes: Chatfield, Cherry Creek, Lake Carter and Lake Dillon.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE DIESEL MAINTENANCE COURSE! I just finished the three day course in Denver and was thoroughly impressed. Tibor is such a great instructor. I confess I had little to no knowledge or experience with working on engines and feared I’d be holding up the class. Turns out there were others who owned boats and much more experienced, yet we all came away with great knowledge.There’s nothing like hands on experience (with two diesel engines right there at the shop that we took apart, fixed, and put back together. I learned SO MUCH and feel so much more confidence!
