Players of all ages train here, but in our case we were looking for a program for our child. We looked at several larger academies. They were certainly options, but our son insisted on this one. He feels like part of a family here, and our whole family has made great friends through the program. The coaches have credentials comparable to the big academies—and in some cases, they even came from those programs. Anyone living the tennis grind—or even watching from the sidelines—knows it’s a technically demanding sport. Drills aren’t always fun, but kids are always kids here. Van Der Meer is living proof that a program can be rigorous while still being positive. As a mother, I appreciate that the environment is both serious about tennis and supportive of the players as people.

The staff made sure we had everything we needed and a good court with some shaded seating area. Who knew Hilton Head Island could see the heat index into 113 degrees F. Well at Van Der Meer Tennis Center they've got you covered with an industrial size ice machine to keep you cool even in the hottest days. The courts were well maintained and plenty of them. They had both covered and open courts that were very reasonable priced for hourly rate. Playing tennis here on vacation has been a real treat for me and my family. Next year we will have to sign young Christian up for their week long camp or match play when we come back. If you play tennis don't miss out on this incredible tennis facility.
