Joe was very informative. It was a pleasure speaking with someone that was ready and able to assist. I'm looking forward to the results of my grandchildren learning how to swim.

On weekdays, the pool is open for lap swimming and open swim from 9:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m., unless the senior lifeguard is sick, overtime has not been approved, or someone feels insufficiently ambitious, in which case it may or may not be open in theory, practice, or spirit. The building itself will remain open and staffed all day, but the pool takes an hour-long lunch from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., during which it is closed to all swimmers — except on summer weekends, when it skips lunch entirely to stay beach-body lean. After 2:00 p.m. and before 5:30 p.m., and not within 30 minutes of thunder (measured either from the most recent thunder or the thunder you personally heard), the pool is open for lap swimming and open swim, except when it must close for a class, in which case it remains open until then. After 6:30 p.m., the pool is open for lap swimming and open swim at the favor of staff, who are more inclined toward openness when willing admirers are present, and who can be persuaded to exchange admiration for extra time. Closing nominally occurs at 7:45 p.m., though it may close sooner if circumstances dictate, or later, if staff deem it emotionally appropriate. The definition of “admirer,” “time,” and “emotionally appropriate” is fluid, mutable, and subject to whim, circumstance, or cosmic alignment. If the heater is broken but the water remains above 72 degrees, the pool is open thermodynamically but may be closed philosophically. On weekends, the pool is open from 10:00 a.m. until an unknown time before noon, for lap swimming and open swim, at the favor of the lifeguards, should they be in need of admiration (pending availability of willing admirers), committed to showing friends and family around the pool, or to giving them a lesson or training session. In all cases, thunder, feces, or vomit, renders the pool both previously open and presently closed. If this reads like a riddle, that’s intentional

Also open for cooling down and charging up during hurricane power outages, which makes you wonder how they manage to get plenty of power when no one else can, like during Ida. They must have connections...

What a hidden gem! I came to the community center for a swim while visiting New Orleans and was surprised to discover that they have free lap swimming! It's a 25yd pool with an analog pace clock and some community equipment like kick boards and pull boys available on deck to borrow. The pool water temp was very hot and at least 84+ degrees (a friendly local swimmer told me it's affectionately known as "hot dog water"). No masters team and be sure to check on the website for the daily schedule as water aerobics takes over the whole pool.
