I’m a very realistic person when it comes to training and progression. If a student— including my own son— isn’t ready to rank up, then it’s simple: we keep working until they are. The training overall at this BJJ school is solid, and my son has learned a lot. However, I do have one concern. I’ve noticed that with one specific instructor, there sometimes seems to be a bit of favoritism in the promotion process. I’ve seen kids rank up who put in less work than others, while some students who consistently train harder don’t advance. My son didn’t advance last cycle, and I was completely fine with that because we weren’t training as much as we should have. But seeing other kids at his same rank move up despite doing noticeably less did raise a red flag for me. I’m not asking for special treatment for my son— just fairness and consistency across the board. Other than that, the academy overall is good, and we plan to keep training and improving.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Let me start by saying my family and I are so thankful for Tiger Academy Suffolk! The staff is amazing—kind, caring, and truly passionate about teaching kids. They don’t just teach skills, they pour love and encouragement into each child. When my son first started, he struggled with confidence, staying focused, and even with friendships at times. In just a year, we’ve seen such a beautiful change. Now he speaks with confidence, looks people in the eye, shows respect, and has grown into a real leader among his friends. What means the most to me is how the staff supports him when things get tough. They always lift him up and remind him that he can do hard things. That kind of encouragement makes all the difference. I would recommend this location to any family. Mr. Hunter and Coach Alicia are absolutely phenomenal. Their dedication to the kids is a true blessing, and it feels like such a breath of fresh air.

Their defense is great the way they dodged all my questions regarding pricing/contracts. Then finally hit me with a $249 “investment fee”. So would’ve been about $500 for the first month. I’ve trained all over California, where it’s very expensive, but never seen prices like that or dealt with customer service like here. I’m sure the training is fine, but don’t wanna go somewhere where I got a shady vibe.

Good place to get the kiddos moving! No matter the age all are welcome here. Discipline and confidence are at the forefront of all training routines. My kids love this place and look forward to keep sharpening their learned skills every week.

We have 3 of our children in their program, my oldest is 9 and has been coming since he was 5. Great teachers, great staff. Kids are not just learning to defend themselves, they’re learning discipline and confidence.
