Thousand Island Park Yacht Club runs a Learn to Sail program on Wellesley Island taught by US Sailing certified instructors, using a club fleet of Sunfish, Optimists, Lasers, 420s, a Lightning and a Javelin O'Day. Sessions are half-day and run Mondays through Thursdays for six weeks from late June through early August, with children ages 8-12 meeting 9:30 to noon and youth ages 12-18 meeting 1:00 to 3:30; students are grouped by age, ability and experience, and beginners are welcome. Advance registration is required each week but no club membership is needed, and a swim test is mandatory for new students. Sailors who can sail solo may join the club's traveling race team on the Central New York Inter-Club Circuit.
The practical details
We list only what the camp itself publishes, and programs change — dates, prices, ages and availability can all move after we check. Confirm the details on the camp’s own website and contact Thousand Island Park Yacht Club (TIPYC) directly before you register or pay. Last checked August 2026.
