The Washington Jazz Arts Institute (WJAI) is a nonprofit jazz-education organization in Northwest DC that has run a free summer Jazz Mentor Project since 2003. A small cohort of young musicians receives hands-on instruction on their instruments and is introduced to jazz history and ensemble playing through lecture, demonstration, and performance; a Saturday program provides additional ensemble and orchestra training.
