Powered by GoogleWent here for the 4th of July, there was a very good band playing outside before the fireworks started. Kind of a self-service beverage and food area. Bathrooms were very clean. The fireworks were fantastic and lasted quite a long time. Both parking and exiting was surprisingly very easy. And one of my friends go and behold found a 300 million year old fossil that has already been identified to be legit. Sitting right on the ground with all those people and she found it. I will steal it from her while she sleeps. Lol.
I need to do a major shout out!! We rent our skis seasonally from an off property location…. Somewhere along the months …. Our skis were swapped…. (Specifically back in November …. It’s now March) - The team at Sugar didn’t dismiss us…. They were attentive and proactive in helping us out! Even though the skis we were missing didn’t even belong to them!! I was beyond impressed by everyone who gave us their time and attention. We love skiing here …. It’s the kids favorite…. But now … their care and attention put them in a whole other category!!! Our demise happened on Friday 20th March 2026 and it was the crew working from 2-4pm down in rentals!! (I was in such a panic I didn’t get names)
Well worth the cost of the day for our first time Skiing . First of all , I’m grateful they stayed open longer than Beech - so we got to ski during our spring break ! It snowed a few days before so the skiing was great . We got our own rentals and brought them with us , payed for lift tickets and then we head to the ski School and enrolled in a lesson . Our instructor, Hamilton , was absolutely fantastic . He was patient , knowledgeable and kind . He adapted the lesson based on how everyone was doing and really made us feel confident. We were so lucky to have him! Our kids were in the sugar bear ski school . They started off rough because they weren’t used to ski boots , but finally went for it and had an amazing time . I will say , the booking opens 4 days before at 12:01am and it fills quickly . Food was good , lockers were nice to have . Lift was fun and the whole family enjoyed Easy Street together after lessons . Thank you all
The staff was not friendly. I was very surprised only the two young people at the ski rental were kinda helpful. One of them didn’t measure the size correctly and the boot wouldn’t lock correctly. I was a mission. The outside staff was more helpful and the food cashiers as well. The magic carpet (the small lift) for beginners was awful to get off from. People would fall off constantly because it was very steep and sharp to turn. Specially for beginners like kids. Overall the place is easy to get to.
🏔️ Sugar Mountain Ski Resort — Full Review (2025) Sugar Mountain is one of the largest and most established ski areas in North Carolina, offering the biggest vertical drop in the state and the most terrain. But it’s also one of the most polarizing resorts in the Southeast. Here’s the breakdown you’ll appreciate. ⭐ Overall Verdict Sugar Mountain delivers solid terrain variety and the largest vertical in NC, but suffers from crowds, ice, and inconsistent snow quality, typical of Southeast skiing. When conditions are good, it’s excellent. When they’re not, it’s rough. If you time it right (cold snap + weekday), it’s one of the best ski experiences in the region. 📊 Benchmark Breakdown 1. Terrain & Mountain Stats | Category | Details | |---------|---------| | Vertical Drop | 1,200 ft — largest in NC | | Skiable Acres | ~125 acres | | Slopes | 20–21 runs, all difficulty levels | | Lifts | 8 lifts, including high‑speed options | | Longest Run | ~1.5 miles | | Off‑Piste | Very limited; reviews rate it low | Verdict: Best terrain size in NC, but still small compared to Western resorts. Great for day trips. 2. Snow Quality | Factor | Notes | |--------|-------| | Natural Snow | ~78 inches per year | | Snowmaking | Heavy reliance; essential for good conditions | | Ice Risk | High — common complaint in reviews | | Snowsure Rating | 3.0/5 from Snow‑Forecast users | Verdict: Snow quality is highly variable. After a freeze–thaw cycle, expect ice. 3. Crowds & Wait Times - Most common complaint across reviews is overcrowding, especially on weekends and holidays. - Lift lines can be long. - Parking can be chaotic. Verdict: Go midweek or at night for the best experience. 4. Beginner & Family Friendliness - Mixed reviews. - Terrain is fine for beginners, but crowds make it stressful. - Tubing and ice skating are available and well‑liked. Verdict: Good for families if you avoid peak times. 5. Lodge, Food & Amenities - Lodge is described as functional but dated. - Food is average. - Staff reviews vary from “friendly” to “overwhelmed” depending on crowd levels. Verdict: Not luxury, but gets the job done. 6. User Review Snapshot | Source | Avg Rating | Notes | |--------|------------|-------| | OnTheSnow | Mixed | Praised for terrain; criticized for crowds & ice | | TripAdvisor | 3.0/5 (861 reviews) | Very mixed; many complaints about lines & conditions | | Snow‑Forecast | 2.4/5 | Low marks for variety & off‑piste | | Tourist Checklist | Positive | Highlights views, friendly staff, and fun runs | 🎯 Who Sugar Mountain Is Best For - Southeast skiers wanting the biggest vertical in NC - Intermediate skiers who want longer runs - Locals who can hit weekday mornings - Families looking for tubing + skating options ⚠️ Who Might Not Love It - Skiers expecting Western‑style snow - Anyone going on a Saturday - Advanced skiers wanting challenging terrain or off‑piste - People who hate crowds 🧭 Pro Tips for the Best Experience - Go midweek or night skiing to avoid crowds. - Watch the weather—go right after a cold snap for the best snow. - Park early; lots fill fast. - If you want a more relaxed vibe, consider Beech Mountain or Appalachian Ski Mountain as alternatives.
