StageStruck: The Young People's Own Theatre is a 501(c)(3) youth theatre in downtown Goldsboro, behind the Paramount Theatre, with a 32-year history of teaching theatre to young people. Its affordable summer camps serve ages 4-18 and end with a performance for family and friends on the last day. The two-week camp for rising 3rd-6th graders covers acting fundamentals, character development, stage presence, improvisation and storytelling plus singing and basic choreography; a separate two-week camp for rising 7th-12th graders focuses on performance.

We snagged two tickets to a completely sold out run, and it was such an outstanding show! I am so glad I got to see it live and in person. The Director, Katie Cox, delivered a performance that could rival Broadway productions. The work they did with moving stairways was amazing, and the Phantom's candlelit dungeon was so beautiful I couldn't help but sneak a picture. With a cast of high school kids, it was extremely well done, professional, and beautiful. You forgot the actors were all mostly high-school kids--they were that good. Dahlia Portela as Christine Daae was beyond perfection; her voice was angelic. StageStruck is an organization to watch! Productions are increasingly high end while keeping the ticket price low. I look forward to my next one.
