I had both of my sons enrolled in the Youth Pro Acting course taught by Alyssa Namazi for one semester. While Alyssa was kind and clearly enthusiastic about acting, the structure and professionalism of the class left a lot to be desired. With only four students total, the small class size should have allowed for focused learning—but unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. Each class was just one hour long and often spent on unrelated conversations, while basic classroom expectations (like staying on task or coming prepared) were inconsistently enforced. Disruptive behavior was common and rarely addressed, making it difficult for students who were committed and ready to learn. The class itself generally consisted of performing a short script from a movie, playing a quick improv game, and going home. Without meaningful instruction, feedback, or any real progression, it felt more like a loosely structured club than a professional acting course. When I raised concerns with the owner, Sue Rowe, I was met with vague, dismissive responses that sidestepped the issues I brought up. Rather than taking the opportunity to improve the experience for students, the communication only solidified our feeling that this was not a serious or supportive environment for young actors. If you’re looking for a casual extracurricular activity, this might be enough. But if you want your children to truly learn, grow, and be challenged in the craft of acting, I’d recommend looking elsewhere.
