School of Rock East Lansing, in Okemos, is a franchise location of the national performance-based music school, and it runs music camps through school breaks including a summer season. Camps are week-long and structured around playing in a band: students rehearse songs Monday through Friday and the week ends with a live show for family and friends. Rock 101 is the beginner camp for ages 7-12, and a songwriting camp serves students 7-18 who have had previous instruction. The chain describes its summer camps as full-day or half-day experiences depending on the session.

Powered by GoogleSOR does an excellent job of not only teaching kids how to play instruments, but how to hear all the parts of music and how to work as a group. It also gives kids amazing confidence as they learn about stage performance. The amount of musical and personal growth we have seen in our son over the past two years has been incredible.
Teachers were amazing, affable and nurturing. The school had instruments and electronics for miles. A lot of thought went into this curriculum and it was an extremely motivating and memorable experience for our 7 year old granddaughter. Personally, we thank Alex, Michelle and Sofia for their instruction, laughs, and all around great times. The final concert was the icing on the cake and this whole summer camp exxperience will never be forgotten and will likely be the inspiration for our granddaughter to pursue music further. Well done! BRAVO!
My four-year old child attends Little Wing with Miss Maura and really enjoys her time at School of Rock. She's always in a great mood after class, and I am finding her creating her own music at home! The classes are small and offer just the right amount of social interaction for a child her age. Her teacher always makes her feel welcome and excited about learning. I definitely recommend Little Wing for the little ones!!
My 13 year old daughter loves it here! She is guitarist and has been playing/taking lessons for 9 years. When the studio opened, we thought it'd be a great place for her to grow her knowledge of music. She did a songwriting summer camp and really loved it. Since then, her interest in music has expanded exponentially. She takes guitar and drum lessons here, and also takes performance band (which is seriously the coolest concept ever). I attribute her passion to the warm, welcoming, and safe environment the owners and teachers have cultivated here. The teachers provide nearly instant feedback when a lesson is finished. The end of the term performances are so fun - it is so amazing to watch the kids learn how to perform fun songs for an audience! If your kiddo is interested in music, this is the place to be!
I love music. I love concerts. I always imagined myself as a musician, but failed at piano and guitar previously. At School of Rock, their approach worked! In three months, i went from never having played the drums ... to I can play solid basic beats over the whole kit l. Our beginner band even performed a public mini-gig with an audience at a local bistro. A fantastic experience. Teachers so talented and patient with me. Great equipment to practice on too. Everyone is chill and really supportive. Weekly private lessons and a separate group/band session with other players learning instruments too...awesome and the key to getting better. Shout outs to my teachers Mandy, Matt and Jordan and owners Jon and Sarah. They are the best.
