May 2026 Back to visit the San Pedro Playhouse, which is located behind the SALT theater, for the play "Steel Magnolia's". I love this theater setting because it is for smaller audiences, you are really close to the stage and actors, and it feels like you are get a more personalized performance. There are bathrooms, and a small bar on premises, just understand that no food is allowed the theater. The play itself was fantastic, and the performances by all 6 women was really encaptivating. This play ran approx. 2 hours and 20 minutes. Dec 2024 I was invited to attend the last showing of "Ann". A play about the life of Ann Richards during her years before, during, and after her governorship. The single actress playing Ann did a phenomenal job with her looks, lined, and small stage. The location was the smaller theater behind SALT. This theater holds about 70 people, has a small snack and beverage bar, and restrooms. The length of the play was approx. 2 hrs and 30 minutes. It's been a few years since I've been to one of these plays, and it was very entertaining. I hope you decide to attend one of these plays, and your experience is as good as mine.

We enjoy attending plays at this theater because it's a historic building that has been maintained very well. Everything is nice and clean but feels like you stepped back in time by 100 years. It's terrific. The seats are comfortable. We sat in the 6th row and it was too close. I had forgotten that the orchestra is located directly below the stage. How cool and the sound and lighting were terrific. I'm so glad SA has this wonderful playhouse.

It's an older building but well maintained. We always get there at least 25mins early for parking on-site. There's some parking in the small park next door and some more parking at the church across the street. The productions are always awesome. Go see Dreamgirls if you can. I was in music heaven. Whoever played Effie belongs on Broadway but please don't leave us. lol. Amazing show.

We love San Pedro Playhouse! Our son is a “Theatre Kid.” His MS Theatre Teacher invited a group of students to see Anything Goes. The Venue was very nice, the Concession Stand well stocked, ample parking, Check-in Process was fast & easy, great performances by some very talented Actors, the employees extremely kind, there isn’t a bad seat in the house & the tickets are affordable. We knew we would be back. When we saw Hairspray coming up we contacted our HS Theatre Kids and have a group planning to attend. David Piwarski, the Box Office Manager has been absolutely amazing to work with, helping our group secure great seats and being super flexible as headcount’s changed. Looking for a great night out? Head to San Pedro Playhouse.

This was my first time visiting The Public Theater, a.k.a, The San Pedro Playhouse in San Antonio. My Daughter and I saw the play Nina Simone: Four Women. It introduces the legendary singer the day after the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing on September 15, 1963, in Birmingham, Alabama. The play was very powerful. All of the women performed the songs beautifully, and the acting was superb! They received robust clapping after each song and a standing ovation at the end. I loved it, and I highly recommend watching it. There are other play dates through 12 Feb 2023. We arrived early, and by the start of the play, there was a good crowd. The Staff were very helpful. There is also a concession stand for water or drinks. The interior was very nice with comfortable chairs. The sound system and acoustics were wonderful. We look forward to seeing another play there! An extra plus is that it is in an area close to historic homes that we enjoyed visiting after the play.
