The Village of Ruidoso Parks & Recreation department runs a Rec Youth Summer Wilderness Camp, a weeklong day camp for kids ages 7-12 in the mountains of southern New Mexico. Campers hike, fish, swim, learn outdoor skills, and take a field trip to the Alamogordo zoo and space museum. Each week is capped at 25 campers.
The practical details
We list only what the camp itself publishes, and programs change — dates, prices, ages and availability can all move after we check. Confirm the details on the camp’s own website and contact Ruidoso Parks & Recreation Office directly before you register or pay. Last checked August 2026.

I was very disappointed when we showed up & they were closed at 3pm for a break. We waited for 30min only to be told they would not be opening for the rest of the day. I agree it was breezy but the wind calmed down significantly about an hour after they closed. Another customer complained about not receiving a refund. After they walked away the 3 young ladies sitting there mocked the man & made fun of his accent. I was disgusted by the entire experience.
Every employee at the wibit and dam house were super helpful and really fun! We came for the wibit attraction and stayed for the awesome employees!
The people working have a true passion for what they do. Me and my family came here in our short visit to Ruidoso, and they were huge help from recommendations, to advice on where to visit. Knowledgeable, helpful, courteous, kind people who made our stay in Ruidiso amazing. We want to say thank you to all of you for that. If in Ruidoso it is a must to look them up
We went to Wibbit park at Grindstone lake today for the first time and the manager for the Village of Ruidoso parks and Recreation was so helpful and kind and so were his staff. We will definitely go out to Wibbit water park again. I give these gentlemen a high five and five stars.
