The Alamogordo Family Recreation Center runs Camp Cottonwood, a municipal summer day camp in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Children ages 6-13 are grouped by age (Hummingbirds 6-7, Quails 8-10, Roadrunners 11-13) for games, crafts, nature hikes, sports, swimming, movies and field trips. The camp runs 7:45 a.m.-5:45 p.m. at about $125 per week with daily snacks; income-based sponsorships are available.

The facility is always clean, the pool water sparkling clear, and the staff are the most welcoming you will find anywhere. The lifeguards are friendly and professional and the swimming lessons for kids are incredible, as my granddaughter will attest. Kudos to Regina Michaud and Patricia Kiscadon for a well-run and maintained facility despite its age. It is truly a zen spot for a sunrise swim.

I’ve never had a good experience with the staff here. Retrain your staff!! I will not be signing my children up here for sports anymore due to the HORRIBLE staff. You work at a gym! It’s NOT that serious!!!
