Rubber City Theatre, a professional Akron company focused on affordable and accessible theatre, co-runs a Summer Arts Camp with the University of Akron's Arts Academy for children ages 6-12, most recently June 8-19. Campers spend mornings on the university campus in visual-art class and interactive theatre games with Rubber City Theatre, then rehearse a camp production such as Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka KIDS! in the afternoon. Families may enroll for the full day or for morning or afternoon only, and every child in the full-day or afternoon session receives a role; scholarships and no-fee payment plans are offered.
The practical details
We list only what the camp itself publishes, and programs change — dates, prices, ages and availability can all move after we check. Confirm the details on the camp’s own website and contact Rubber City Theatre directly before you register or pay. Last checked August 2026.

Powered by GoogleLove that they produce original and new works. I will say that the production value is just ok on everything I've seen. The sets are okay and the lighting is pretty good but I have seen at least 5 shows here and the costumes were lazy at best and also zero plus size people were on stage in White Christmas. I know this theater is capable of doing better though so I will not go under 4 stars.
Invaluable opportunities for children interested in theatre and the performing arts. Saw a production today and cannot say enough good things about it. Thank you, staff, admin, and crew for all you do
Here to see Love in Reserve Eric Mansfield who I went to High School with wrote the play The theater is Amazing and the actors really did an Awesome job at bringing Eric's play to life. Congratulations to everyone involved !!!
Dane Leasure is a renowned Shakespearean scholar and the creative force behind one of the country's finest millennial theater companies: RUBBER CITY THEATRE. With a scarce budget and even sparser staging, he and his impressive cast and crew have produced staggeringly outstanding productions of ”JULIUS CAESAR”, ”LEAR”, ”LOVE’S LABOUR’S LOST ”and more recent presentations of ”SHERLOCK HOLMES: The Final Adventure”, ”A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE”, and ”THE RESOLUTIONIST”, as well as perennial favorites like Charles Dicken's ”A CHRISTMAS CAROL”. Their new location at 243 Furnace St, Akron, OH 44304 is accessible, well lit, and very comfortable.
We enjoyed this little community theatre! We saw a Christmas Carol and all of the actors did an outstanding job. We’ll definitely come back to support this theatre group and we’re looking forward to seeing other plays at Rubber City Theatre.
