The Richard J. Benjamin Soccer Complex is the home field site of the Oswego Youth Soccer Association, a volunteer youth soccer organization founded in 1977 by Dick Benjamin, a physical education instructor for whom the complex is named. OYSA runs house and travel leagues rather than a summer camp, enrolling roughly 440 players in the spring house league, 420 in the fall house league, 100 in winter house, 150 in winter travel and about 180 in a spring/summer academy program. It integrates novice and experienced players across house and travel teams and is affiliated with the Central New York Junior Soccer Association, New York State West Youth Soccer and the U.S. Soccer Federation. The association commits to low-cost participation fees and offers scholarships, noting that Oswego is the seat of an economically underdeveloped county.
