Powered by GoogleThis review is going to be a bit lengthy but hopefully useful. I think it's a pretty decent program for youth; my 11 year old son participated and completed a season and I can for sure say the following: 1. It is exceptionally accessible as in kids can jump in at zero basketball experience and the coach(es) seem to have a good sense of how to sort out the team to where the least experienced kids aren't getting left behind but also the more seasoned athletes aren't being held back. 2. It is not a basketball boot camp. The warm up routines are school PE level as in maybe five laps around the gym dribbling a basketball, the agility ladder (you can find videos on YouTube if you're unfamiliar), running across the gym, super basic stretches. There's no CrossFit, coach going military drill instructor on your kid. Again, its not hard. However, like many sports, physical conditioning will be encouraged outside of practice. 3. There is some frequent mix and match of advanced to novice basketball players even during a game. As a parent, I see it as a way of having the novice players develop and have exposure alongside the experienced players yet also force very seasoned players to work with their team mates in a way they aren't just hogging the ball non-stop. Of course there are considerations: 1. Get what the current registration cost is. It may be steep for some folks. 2. Transportation to practice and games. The times and locations are reasonable, occasionally change but if you're a 9-5'er and having to drive your kid to these things, get the details first so you can decide if this will be feasible. Overall: It is nice that the coaches weren't expecting D1 level players overnight. My son definitely was self motivated to go to practice, the games, and even work out on his own without me having to force him to and that grew as time went on during his stint with NW Rockets. This program also helped reinforce its not a "me" sport but you have to learn to work with the team mates win or lose. And develop that cohesion. Would my son do it again? Yes. As a parent, would I? Since he enjoyed it, the cost seemed a bit steep but for me to see my son sort of help coach his team mates and augment the instruction of their team coach, I feel that leadership he's developing sort of help me find the return on investment especially for adulthood.
Our experience with the NW Rockets and Coach Cooper was exceptional. It is clear that Coach Cooper has the knowledge and talent from playing and coaching at the highest levels, and my son’s basketball skills and fitness improved drastically under his guidance. What sets this program apart is the focus on accountability and teamwork; Coach Cooper brings a level of discipline that feels like a 'lost art' in today’s coaching. Between the high-quality practices and the abundant game experience, it’s a fantastic environment for any player to grow. If you want your child to learn the game the right way, I highly recommend becoming part of this program.
My son was referred to the NW Rockets by his rec ball coach. He had played a few seasons of rec, but didn’t really know the game. We have been with the organization just over a year. Coach Bruce saw what my son had in him, and his growth over the past year has been exponential. It’s high time to leave a positive review! Coach Bruce has excellent communication and stays aligned with us as parents. His firm but compassionate coaching style has been a welcome breath of fresh air. Having had our son in sports of some capacity since he was 7- (13 now) I can attest to that being a rarity these days. The program goes far beyond skills and fundamental training. They also consistently practice cardio (always a good nights sleep after practice!), mental fortitude, and my personal favorite- accountability. My son has grown both as an athlete and a young man so much this past year. I credit Coach Bruce and the NW Rockets to much of that growth. His teammates are his friends now, on and off the court. Very grateful to the organization and to Coach Bruce specifically. He is incredibly dedicated and his passion for the game is contagious. If you are looking for a place where your child can grow physically and mentally- develop real basketball skills, and pick up some life skills among the way- get to a NW Rockets practice! I’ll happily welcome you to the fam.
We joined the Rockets in August 2024, and it’s been a great experience for our son. Thanks to Coach Cooper’s superb coaching, he’s grown in both basketball skills and confidence. If you want a coach who will push your son to reach his potential while teaching accountability and hard work, the Rockets are the right choice!
My 13 year old son attended the summer training and played with the Northwest Rockets. I was throughly impressed. Coach Bruce’s expertise and enthusiasm for basketball were evident throughout the seasons. The drills were engaging and tailored to different skill levels, helping my son to improve his shooting and dribbling skills. Overall, I highly recommend Coach Bruce and his fellow coaches for anyone looking to develop their basketball skills. Thank you Coach Bruce.
