North Mountain Gymnastics in Broadway runs three four-day summer camps (Monday to Thursday, 9:00am to 4:00pm, $300 per camp) at its Industrial Drive gym, in addition to year-round recreational classes for children and teens of all ability levels. Families registering for two camps get a $30 credit toward future classes and three camps a $60 credit. The gym is a USA Gymnastics member club and also fields a competitive girls' team.

The owner is quite stern and even went so far as to call my 6-year-old “a baby” in front of the class because he wasn’t waiting quietly for his turn. (He was talking to a friend seated next to him.) He felt so embarrassed that he didn’t want to finish the classes. It was his first time trying a sport and we were hoping he’d have a positive experience. I have heard it’s the place to go if your child wants to compete, but again not the best spot for kids who are just trying out a new sport for fun.

Chip and her coaches are amazingly adept at getting kids at any level to rise to the occasion and improve their abilities, and themselves at the same time. I am always amazed it doesn't cost much, much more. I should also mention that their birthday parties are very fun and also a tremendous value.
